Double Dose of Blood Thinner

Went to get an updated ultrasound this morning and found out that I have a few blood clots in my lower left calf. Not "dangerous" per se, as they haven't moved up to behind my knee, or even more nefariously, my thigh. Still feel that deep ache in my calf each time I stand up, but it's not as bad as it was last week . . . Went to my family practice doctor later in the day for pre-operation clearance, and I am pretty healthy, but my doctor decided I should go ahead and start treating those clots while I can, so he doubled the dose (from 40 mg to 80 mg) of my blood thinners. I could have gone for the double dose in one shot, but Stin decided that since they gave us so many of the original dose, I could just "double up" on the shots (40mg) I inject into my stomach each morning and night -- FUN! Tonight was the first experience with two shots, instead of just one and it allowed Luci the opportunity to give me a shot all by herself. She was a little skittish at first, but she ended up doing a pretty good job. As usual, the uncomfortable, mild stinging sensation from the medication under my skin is worse than the actual shot, and especially when it's double the amount, but the discomfort eventually wore off. Surgery is scheduled for this Thursday, the 21st, but I still don't have a specific time slot yet. It will most likely be performed by two surgeons, and I will be under observation for 24 hours post-op, that't about all I know right now. No pain meds today, all day!

Welcome to Tibial Pursuit (thanks for the title Jordan!) . . .

Why a new blog to chronicle my life after suffering a Tibial Plateau fracture? One simple answer is because I have time. Lots of time. And it's life changing. I found out today that surgery to treat a TP fracture is the most difficult Orthopedic surgery there is. Who knew? It's kind of a big deal. Hopefully this will allow friends and family to keep tabs on this occurrence in my life and help us all appreciate some of the things we constantly take for granted -- like good health, and being able to stand up on both legs with no pain!
